The Cebuana beauty is the first openly-queer winner of the pageant. Miss Universe Philippines crowned a new queen on Thursday, September 30, Cebu City’s Beatrice Luigi Gomez. The 26-year-old beauty queen’s win is a milestone for the LGBTQ+ community – Bea is the first openly-bisexual candidate to win the title. Bea is not new to the pageant scene. In 2015, she placed second runner-up in the Miss Mandaue pageant, and in January 2020, she was crowned Binibining Cebu by the reigning queen at the time, Steffi Rose Aberasturi, who she ended up competing against in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant. On pageant night, Bea breezed through the competition, winning a slew of special awards, including Best in Evening Gown, and Best in Swimsuit. Aside from being a beauty queen, Bea is also a community development worker and a navy marine’s reservist. With the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 title, Bea now has the challenge of representing the country in Miss Universe 2021 – arguably the most high-profile pageant in the world – in Israel in December. It’s daunting for even the most determined beauty queens – but Bea seems born to take on that challenge.
Tracy Maureen Perez, an industrial engineer from Cebu City, was crowned Miss World Philippines 2021 on Sunday night at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center. Model-actress and Miss World Philippines 2019 Michelle Dee crowned her successor. The 28-year-old will be the country’s representative at the 70th Miss World pageant to be held in Puerto Rico in December. Aside from besting 44 other candidates for the Miss World Philippines crown, Tracy bagged five other special awards throughout the competition. The 28-year-old Cebu City native is already a seasoned beauty queen. She finished second runner-up in Miss Cebu 2016, finished sixth at Binibining Cebu 2017, and was named Binibining Cebu Charity in 2018. For the past two years, Tracy has also tried her luck in the national pageant scene. She first joined Miss World Philippines in 2019, where she finished in the Top 12. Michelle Dee, who won the title at that time, is coincidentally the one who passed the crown to Tracy.
Shaila Mae Rebortera, 25, of Talisay City, Cebu, Philippines is Miss Multinational Philippines 2021. She was crowned during the Miss World Philippines 2021 coronation night in Olongapo City, Philippines on October 3, 2021. The Miss World Philippines 2021 coronation night was held at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center in the Subic Special Economic and Freeport Zone in Olongapo City. It was the 10th edition of the national beauty pageant that selects the Philippines’ candidates in Miss World, Miss Multinational and other international beauty pageants.
Rebortera is a licensed dentist. On January 13, 2016, she competed against 11 other candidates at Miss Cebu 2016 in the Pacific Grand Ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino in Cebu City, Philippines and became second runner-up.
The Talisay City native will represent the Philippines at Miss Multinational 2021 in India. If she wins, she will be the international beauty pageant’s second titleholder following Sophia Senoron‘s coronation in 2017.
A nursing graduate from Cebu was proclaimed Mr. Gay World Philippines 2021 during a virtual presentation held on Sunday, Aug. 8. Joel Rey Carcasona, 28, bested 23 other candidates for the national title. He will represent the country in the Mister Gay World 2021 pageant. Carcasona, who stands 5’6, currently works as a financial associate.
Joel Rey is very health-oriented and advocates for health and wellness among the members of the LGBTQIA+ community. He spearheads an LGBTQIA+ friendly health and wellness campaign that strongly encourages healthcare professionals in all settings, especially doctors to wear badges, pins, and lanyards to show patients that they are allies of the community and will support them fully.
