No COVID-19 transmission for 40 days.

Cebu City, Philippines– GOOD NEWS: around 69 of Cebu City’s 80 barangays have had no Covid-19 transmission for the last 40 days, said Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera.

Cebu City, now the center of COVID-19 outbreak, remains on full lockdown until July 15 - The Filipino Times

Garganera, who is also the deputy chief implementer of the City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), disclosed the matter before reporters on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.

This is the lowest rate of transmission we have had so far,” Garganera said.Garganera said vaccination has played a big part in keeping Covid-19 transmissions low within the barangay level. But Garganera also urged the public to practice caution especially since Covid-19 restrictions are slowly being lifted to make way for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

“We cannot afford a relapse, especially since the holidays are coming up. We should keep face masks on and avoid gatherings. We should also encourage those who are unvaccinated to get vaccinated,” Garganera said. Garganera said the City’s vaccination rates have dropped from 56 percent to 47 percent as the city’s vaccination targets were changed after individuals under the 12-17 age group were allowed to get their Covid-19 jabs. Meanwhile, Garganera also urged the public to continue practicing precautions, especially since cinemas in the city are set to reopen soon. But even as cinemas will reopen, Garganera said they will still not allow some establishments like KTV bars to reopen due to the lack of ventilation and air circulation.
