DepEd 7: 8 public schools in Cebu ready for limited F2F classes
THE Department of Education Central Visayas (DepEd 7) said all the eight pilot public schools in Cebu are ready for the limited face-to-face (F2F) classes on Monday, Nov. 15, 2021.
DepEd 7 Director Salustiano Jimenez said there is already a go-signal for the eight public schools as they all passed the readiness assessment conducted by the agency.
Jimenez said school division superintendents have been directed to instruct all school heads under them to prepare for the possible expansion of the face-to-face classes. More schools could be opened to accommodate more students in an in-person classroom setup.
“I already visited all the eight schools and engaged with stakeholders like the local government units, parents-teacher associations and non-governmental organizations. The readiness can be attributed to the shared responsibility and collaboration among stakeholders,” Jimenez said.
He identified the eight pilot schools as Basak Elementary School in Samboan; Cañang-Marcelo Luna National High School in Oslob; Pilar National High School in Camotes; Luyongbaybay Elementary School in Bantayan; Mahanlud Elementary School in Malabuyoc; Busay National High School in Moalboal; Cabagdalan Elementary School in Balamban; and Siocon Elementary School in Bogo City.
On Tuesday, Pilar National High School conducted a short dry run of the limited F2F classes with selected Grade 10 and Grade 11 students.
The simulation was conducted so both the teachers, students and non-teaching personnel will be able to familiarize the health protocols that will be implemented inside the school.
In southern Cebu, Samboan’s local government officials, school administrators, teachers, parents and students conducted an orientation in Basak Elementary School Monday, Nov. 8. Only students from kindergarten and Grades 1 to 3 were allowed to participate in the face-to-face classes from Monday to Friday, according to a social media post of the said LGU.
“Teachers are instructed to divide the students in a morning and afternoon schedule. There will also be disinfection procedures that will be conducted every Friday,” the LGU said.
The Samboan Municipal Government turned over to the school 2,000 pieces of vitamins, 100 masks, 100 face shields and two gallons of alcohol that the students can use during the pilot testing.
For private schools, Jimenez said the five schools that submitted their intention to join in the pilot limited F2F are awaiting validation from the DepEd Central Office and approval from the Department of Health. If these private schools are approved to participate, their opening of face-to-face classes will be on Nov. 22, 2021. One of the private schools is from Anda, Bohol, while the other four are located in Cebu. (JOB, ANV)
