Cebu public schools to use solar energy

Great news for everyone. The Philippine government is now investing some money on how to save mother earth. It doesn’t only is beneficial for the earth but also it does help the local government in saving more money when it comes to electricity expenses.

CEBU schools will be among the beneficiaries of a P120 million electrification project using solar energy. This, after the National Electrification Administration (NEA) announced Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, that President Rodrigo Duterte had approved the release of funds for the implementation of its rural electrification projects in the countryside.

The approved funds worth P120 million will be used for the installation of solar panels on 44 public schools in four provinces, the NEA said. The funding is contained in the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

The bulk of the P120 million, or P100 million, will be for 33 public schools in Lipa City, Batangas. The remaining P20 million will be for 11 public schools in the provinces of Cebu, Ilocos Norte and Nueva Ecija, the agency said.Sourcing a portion of the schools’ electricity demand from solar rooftops is intended not only to generate savings but also to mitigate climate change with the use of an indigenous renewable energy source.

In addition to the P120 million for electrification projects using solar energy, the 2021 GAA also allotted the NEA P1.628 billion for its Sitio Electrification Program. (CTL)
