Our Childhood Favorite Movie
As I was looking a movie for binge watching, I found our favorite movie with my cousin when we were kids. This movie gives me nostalgia that I had almost forgotten about. If I remember correctly, it was evening when we watched this movie and we cried so much because of the unexpected happenings. The title of the movie was “Bridge to Terabithia”.
It tells the story of Jesse and Leslie who create a fantasy world called Terabithia. Leslie is a transferee student from their school. On the way home, Jesse and Leslie learn they are next-door neighbours. One day at school, Leslie compliments Jesse’s drawing ability and they become friends. After school, they venture into the woods and swing across a creek on a rope. They found an abandoned treehouse on the other side and invented a new world, which they call Terabithia. With their belief in their imagination, the magical world, which is a reflection on their lives, comes to life through their eyes the more they explore. For the next few days, Jesse and Leslie spend their free time in the treehouse getting to know each other.
The next morning, Ms. Edmunds, Jess’s music teacher, calls to invite him on a one-on-one field trip to an art museum. Jess asks his mother’s permission; however, she is half-asleep and he takes her mumbling as approval. Jess does not ask Leslie to accompany him and merely looks at her house as they drive by. When he returns home, Jess finds his parents were worried sick since they did not know where he was. His father reveals that Leslie died in the rain-swollen creek that morning, after the rope she used to cross broke, hitting her head. Jess, horror-struck, first denies it and runs to check on Leslie, but he notices the emergency vehicles surrounding her house and has no choice but to accept Leslie’s death.
When we found out that Leslie had died, me and my cousin cried so much. We did not expect that it would happen in the story. Every time I see that movie, it reminds me of my cousin who became part of our childhood.
子供の頃に、はまりそうな映画を探していたとき、いとこと一緒にあるお気に入りの映画を見つけました。 この映画は、忘れてかけている懐かしさを与えてくれます。 記憶が正しければ、この映画を見たのは確か夕方で、思いがけない出来事で大泣きした記憶があります。 映画のタイトルは「テラビシアにかける橋」です。
この映画は、テラビシアにかけるファンタジーの世界を創り出すジェシーとレスリーの物語です。 レスリーは彼らの学校からの転校生です。 家に帰る途中、ジェシーとレスリーはお互いが隣人であることを知ります。 ある日、学校でレスリーが、ジェシーの絵を描くスキルが高いことをほめ、彼らは友達になります。 放課後、彼らは森にいき、ロープで小川を横切ってスイングします。 彼らは反対側に廃墟となった木でつくられた家を見つけ、テラビシアと呼ばれる新しい世界を発明しました。 想像力を信じ、彼らの人生を反映した魔法の世界は探検すればするほど、彼らの目を通して生き返ります。 次の数日間、ジェシーとレスリー家の中で自由な時間を過ごし、お互いを知り合うことになるのです。
翌朝、ジェシーの音楽教師であるエドマンズは、美術館への遠足に彼を招待するように呼びかけます。 ジェシーは母親の許可を求めますが、眠りながらOKサインを出してくれました。ジェスはレスリーに一緒についてくるように頼むのではなく、彼らが通り過ぎるときに彼女の家を見るだけでした。 彼が家に帰ると、ジェシーは両親が彼の居場所を知らなかったので病気を心配していたことに気づきました。 彼の父は、レスリーがその朝、雨で膨らんだ小川で、彼女が渡っていたロープが壊れて頭を打った後、死んだことを明らかにしたのです。恐怖に襲われたジェシーは、最初にそれを否定し、レスリーを様子を伺うためにに走ります、しかし彼は彼女の家の周りに停まる救急車に気づき、レスリーの死を受け入れるしかなかったのです。
物語の中で、レスリーが亡くなったことを知ったとき、こんなことが起こるとは思っていなかったので、私といとこは思わず泣いてしまいました。この映画を見るたびに、いとことの子供時代を思い出します。
